Rásaíocht Con Éireann (Greyhound Racing Ireland) has announced that its 2020 National Greyhound Racing Awards, will now take place as on online event on Sunday 16th May.  The original planned event was for a live ceremony, however given current restrictions the decision was made to move to a virtual ceremony.

The virtual gala hosted by Ian Fortune, will see the announcement of the 2020 winners, as well as paying tribute to a number of individuals including Hall of Fame, Special Merit and Welfare Award. The event will be streamed worldwide from 7.00pm GMT on Sunday 16th May with full details to be announced over the coming weeks.

The shortlist was compiled by a panel of judges and the finalists were announced earlier this year.  The full list of finalists can be viewed online here.

Frank Nyhan, Chairman of Rásaíocht Con Éireann, said:

“After the unprecedented challenges of 2020, the greyhound racing world deserves a celebration more than ever. We are excited to be bringing the Awards to the public in a virtual form.  This also offers us an opportunity to welcome not only a national but also an international audience. Although nothing can replace the thrill of a live event, this will without doubt be a very special night as we pay tribute to all of the outstanding award winners from our industry.”
