Rásaíocht Con Éireann/Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) has sought submissions from interested parties, through the e-tenders platform, for a design team for the €2.3M upgrade of facilities at Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium.  The proposed project is split into three phases covering the upgrade of the ground floor area (phase 1), a re-development of the hospitality suites (phase 2) and re-modelling of the first floor grand stand restaurant (phase 3). 

The funding available will be utilised to immediately proceed with phase 1 and phase 2 of the re-development project.  Interested parties are asked to deliver a full concept design for the Shelbourne Park Enhancement & Improvement Project. The design to include the introduction of a tourist visitor experience as part of the overall re-modelling together with a upgrading of suites to offer 7 day conference and meeting facilities overlooking the racetrack and Dublin city skyline.

Frank Nyhan, Chairman of Greyhound Racing Ireland, stated “Shelbourne Park is the flagship greyhound stadium in Ireland and has a national and international status.  The ambition of GRI in the medium term is to create a world class stadium facility to rival other sporting venues in the capital and continue to provide the greyhound industry with a flagship venue where all within the greyhound community can aspire to have their greyhounds competing in race events.  The funding for the enhancement project has been made available through the surplus sale proceeds from the disposal of Harold’s Cross Greyhound Stadium in 2018.”

The closing date for submission of tenders through the e-tenders platform is 30th April 2021.  Following the design process and compliance with other statutory procedures it is expected that works would commence on site during Q1 2022.
